01. Meet Jill

I love being Canadian. I think growing up in Canada gives you a world perspective that I certainly enjoy. It's nice to be around people that have a sense of the world around them, that are, in general, more conscious and conscientious. I wrote you everyday for a year. Not to discriminate against budgets, I feel that independent films tend to ask more questions and don't pretend to know as much as the bigger films, which tend to think they know everything.

Fresh 48 Sessions

For those looking for something a little bit different, I offer “fresh 48 sessions”. I come to you within the first 1-2 days of baby’s birth, and even as early as a few hours after birth. This gorgeous session documents your new baby and interaction between family, friends and captures your newborn in all their brand new goodness.

1. Why hire a birth photographer?

The birth of your child is one of the highlights of your life and should be memorialized as such! This day, your baby’s birthday, is one you will remember forever, but there are moments you would never even know about, if not for the photographs. As a professional birth photographer, I photograph special moments that will take place before, during and after your birth. It is always my goal to provide images that will surprise and bring joy to new mama’s when they receive their galleries.

2. What is birth photography?

Many people think of birth photography and immediately associate it with the less than pretty parts of birth. I like to think of it as a beautiful, intimate look at the beginning of a family. I shoot with empathy, connection and a passion to create a lovely story you can share with friends and family.

3. When should I book?

I am only able to accept 1-2 births per month so I suggest booking as soon you decide you are ready!

4. Will you photograph everything??

During our pre-birth consultation, we will discuss your level of comfort and what images and style of photography you would prefer. I am comfortable with whatever you decide and am able to provide you with exactly what you desire .

5. When do you arrive?

I arrive at your birth when you are in active labor, which is usually when contractions are strong and consistent and you are dilated around 5 or 6 cms. If you have had fast labor’s in the past, we will discuss what might be a better time for me to arrive.

6. Will you interact with me during the birthing process?

I like to take on as little or as much interaction as you prefer, so if you ask me questions, or if you ignore me completely, I will follow your lead.

7. What if I have a C-Section?

If allowed, I will join you in the OR to photograph the cesarean. If not, I will arrive before the C-Section and photograph elements of the day, photograph you in triage (if allowed), and will join you in recovery as soon as staff allows.

8. If I have a short birth will I receive money back?

No, whether I am at your birth for 3 hours or 12, I will still provide you with a minimum of 75 images in your online private gallery.

9. How will you be available for my birth?

I only take on 1-2 birth’s per month and I am on call once you reach 36 weeks, so that I can be available at the time of your birth. My clients tend to reach out to me about once a week leading up to their estimated due date, giving me updates from their prenatal appointments. You or your partner need to let me know when you think you are in active labor (even if it is a false alarm). You or your partner can provide me updates via text message when you leave for the hospital, go through triage and whenever you are checked to let me know how you are progressing. If having a home birth, you would advise me when midwife/doula suggests that I should arrive.

10. What if you miss my birth?

• Should I miss your birth because the baby is born too quickly, I will still arrive and take photos after the birth and you will be responsible for the remaining balance.
• Should I miss your entire birth due to unforeseeable circumstances, you have 3 options:
1. You can request that I have a backup photographer. I will pay them the deposit you have sent me and you will pay them the 50% remaining balance.
2. I can provide you with a bonding session in the hospital or at home within 1-2 days of your birth and you will pay me the 50% remaining balance.
3. No photographs are taken and you will not be responsible for the remaining 50% balance.

11. How many images will I receive?

You will receive a minimum of 75 edited images through a private online gallery. I like to tell the story of your birth in black and white until the baby is born, when I then begin to shoot with color. So, you will receive a mixture of black and white and some color images.

12. Do you offer gift certificates?

Of course! Please contact me for more information.

Please contact me - I look forward to speaking with you!
